Whilst the development of individual low carbon community energy projects often have very positive impacts within their communities, research has shown that adopting a whole place approach to developing energy self-sufficiency/low carbon communities can have wider environmental, economic and social benefits for a community. 

Attending this workshop will:

• Provide a clearer understanding of why a whole place approach can deliver greater impact than a piecemeal approach to low carbon development
• Introduce you to a breadth of case studies which will inspire you and stimulate discussion
• Enable you to ‘vision’ what a low carbon whole place approach could look like and what it could deliver
• Equip you with a toolbox of knowledge, examples, structures, processes and assessment measures with which to kick-start your planning
• Provide you with resources, contacts and networking opportunities to increase your confidence and to share challenges and solutions

Applicable to both existing communities, as well as those embarking on future developments.

This workshop will cover the Why, What and How of planning for a whole place approach to low carbon communities, using examples from here in Cumbria and further afield. You will hear from people actively involved in different aspects of such approaches, from how to understand the energy demand of a community to delivering community renewable energy systems.
